The Spirit That Lives Within Us

Posted on August 3, 2012 by

If you can say,” Jesus Christ is Lord”, then the Holy Spirit of God resides inside of your heart. He is there waiting to have a relationship with you just like a friend or family member. The only difference is He can’t be seen. The Bible tells us, “There are three Persons in the Godhead: The Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, and these three are one God, the same in substance, equal in power and glory.  They are one nature, the same in Their attributes, in Their will and in Their purpose.” Scofield Bible.  He is inside of your heart because of the finished work of Jesus Christ and He is there to help us in our weakness and infirmities. When we simple  no longer how to pray, the Holy Spirit will cry out to God on our behalf. Jesus said:

“If you love me, you will keep my commandments.  And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper,t to be with you forever, even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you.  “I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.  John 14:15-18 ESV

The instant we believe there is no condemnation to those of us who are in Christ Jesus. We are freed from all sinful nature and death because of the “Law of the Spirit.” The faith we receive through Bible study and prayer gives us God’s own unmerited righteousness. Because of our faith in Christ we stand before God just as if we had never sinned. We are no longer under the “law of sin” and “the law of death.” Our deliverance from sin has been paid for by the precious blood of Jesus Christ.

There is no one who can live in complete obedience to the “Law of God” and not be found guilty of breaking one part or another.   All of us were condemned to die because the law demanded perfect submission and purity. The Bible says,

“For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.” Romans 3:23 NLT

Within ourselves we find the law of God warring or fighting with the law of sin. Without faith in Christ we end up a slave to the law of sin in our bodies. We as believers find deliverance through the Holy Spirit living within us every moment of every day.

But you belong to God, my dear children. You have already won a victory over those people, because the Spirit who lives in you is greater than the spirit who lives in the world. We are of God and we have overcome the world because greater is the Spirit that lives inside of us than he who is in the world. 1 John 4:4 NLT

Our lifestyle determines the position of our heart.  Those of us who follow after worldly lust such as “the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eye and the pride of life,” are against the mind of God.  Those of us who are indwelt in the Holy Spirit search after things of the Spirit and are not subject to the “Laws of God.” Whosoever will may come unto God , but everyone who comes to God must do it His way. That way is by faith through Bible study and prayer because without faith it is impossible to please God.  Jesus said, “I am the Way, the Truth and the Life; No man comes unto the Father, but by Me.” John 14:6  Anyone trying to approach God any other way are thieves and robbers and they will not enter unto the Father.

This world we live in today has all the social media available to us in an instant.  The story of salvation is available to anyone who wishes to hear  by visiting a church, by radio, by television or through he internet. I do not know of anyone in this country that has not heard of the birth, crucifixion, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Yet they are not willing to accept the love of God through the sacrificial gift of Jesus Christ. They have rejected the only avenue of escape from this wicked world and have come into the eternal damnation and wrath of God.

The Bible teaches that unless a person is born of the Spirit through the Word of God,  they have not become a child of God.  Jesus says, “ No one can come to Me unless the Father Who sent Me draws him.” The Holy Spirit does not take up residence in the believer some time during the regeneration process, but the moment an unbeliever believes in Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit enters into his heart.  From that instant we believe the Holy Spirit resides in the believer and … we are sealed until the day of redemption. Ephesians 4:30

The Holy Spirit convicts us and draws us closer to God.

But in fact, it is best for you that I go away, because if I don’t, the Advocatet won’t come. If I do go away, then I will send him to you.  And when he comes, he will convict the world of its sin, and of God’s righteousness, and of the coming judgment.  The world’s sin is that it refuses to believe in me.  Righteousness is available because I go to the Father, and you will see me no more.  Judgment will come because the ruler of this world has already been judged.  “There is so much more I want to tell you, but you can’t bear it now.  When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own but will tell you what he has heard. He will tell you about the future.  He will bring me glory by telling you whatever he receives from me.  All that belongs to the Father is mine; this is why I said, ‘The Spirit will tell you whatever he receives from me.’  John 16:7-15 NLT

The Holy Spirit leads us to God.

For all who are led by the Spirit of God are childrent of God.  So you have not received a spirit that makes you fearful slaves. Instead, you received God’s Spirit when he adopted you as his own children.t Now we call him, “Abba, Father.”Romans 8:14-15  NLT

For his Spirit joins with our spirit to affirm that we are God’s children.  And since we are his children, we are his heirs. In fact, together with Christ we are heirs of God’s glory. But if we are to share his glory, we must also share his suffering.  Romans 8:16-17 NLT

The Holy Spirit seals the believer.

And do not bring sorrow to God’s Holy Spirit by the way you live. Remember, he has identified you as his own,t guaranteeing that you will be saved on the day of redemption.  Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of evil behavior.  Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you.  Ephesians 4:30-32 NLT

The Holy Spirit fills the believer; Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is.  And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit,  speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord,  giving thanks always for all things to God.  Don’t act thoughtlessly, but understand what the Lord wants you to do. Don’t be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs among yourselves, and making music to the Lord in your hearts.  And give thanks for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.  And further, submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.  Ephesians 5:17-21 NLT

The Holy Spirit indwells the believer.

But you are not controlled by your sinful nature. You are controlled by the Spirit if you have the Spirit of God living in you. (And remember that those who do not have the Spirit of Christ living in them do not belong to him at all.)10 And Christ lives within you, so even though your body will die because of sin, the Spirit gives you life because you have been made right with God.  The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you. And just as God raised Christ Jesus from the dead, he will give life to your mortal bodies by this same Spirit living within you. Romans 8:9-11 NLT

The believer’s body is the home of the Holy Spirit;

Run from sexual sin! No other sin so clearly affects the body as this one does. For sexual immorality is a sin against your own body.  Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body. 1 Corinthians 6:18-20  NLT

The thing that amazes me the most is the opportunity that God offers us through salvation.  It is not an employment of servitude. He does not offer us a position in His company. He opens His arms to us and offers us adoption into His family. He makes us heirs to His kingdom and joint heirs with Jesus Christ.  We are not given the spirit of bondage. We are not under the spirit of the law, but under the spirit of grace. We don’t have to be afraid anymore. Through our relationship with the Holy Spirit all fear is removed. Born again children of God do not fear death or the judgment of sin.

Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, everyone who sins is a slave of sin.  A slave is not a permanent member of the family, but a son is part of the family forever.  So if the Son sets you free, you are truly free. John 8:34-36 NLT

The Holy Spirit of God testifies with our spirit that we are children of God now. Our relationship with God through the Holy Spirit is a small taste of heaven right here on earth.  Through our human weakness the Spirit helps us communicate with our heavenly Father.

And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words.  And the Father who knows all hearts knows what the Spirit is saying, for the Spirit pleads for us believerst in harmony with God’s own will. Romans 8:26-27 NLT

One of the most dangerous things you can do is resist the call of the Holy Spirit. If you were chosen by God to be a part of His family and you put off the time of your Salvation you are risking an eternity in hell.

For God says,
“At just the right time, I heard you.
On the day of salvation, I helped you.”
Indeed, the “right time” is now. Today is the day of salvation. 2 Corinthians 6:2 NLT

The longer you resist the call of the Lord the harder your heart becomes until one day you will not be able to accept Christ as your Savior at all. The unbeliever cannot receive the Holy Spirit until he has accepted the Word of God as the truth. That is why it is impossible for an unsaved person to understand and accept the truths of God. All of us are spiritually dead  to our trespasses and sins until the Holy Spirit makes the soul of the inner person alive by the spiritual birth.

From His position of power and glory where all things are His to do as He pleases. With all the angels in heaven at His mercy and infinite luxuries at His disposal. He stepped off of His throne and took on the form of a lowly human being and took on the misery that all of us deal with on a daily basis. He suffered like no other human being has on this earth. He was beaten, humiliated and nailed to a cross. He virtually separated Himself from His own being and gave Himself up to death. We will never know what it was like for Him on that cross. We will never know the punishment He bore for our sins. He did all these things so that we may have life, and that we may have it more abundantly, because there is no greater love than when someone gives up his life for another.  He did all these things for you. But when the kindness and the love of God our Savior toward man appeared,  not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit,  whom He poured out on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior, that having been justified by His grace we should become heirs according to the hope of eternal life. Titus 3:4-7

He is not asking you to pay a price for entrance into the Kingdom of Heaven. He has already paid the price for you. He doesn’t ask you to do anything but to believe. Won’t you come. You don’t need to change anything that will come later. He asks you to come just as you are, without one plea, because God’s blood was shed for you. He bids you to come. Oh, Lamb of God, I come just as I am. Won’t you say this little prayer with me?
