The Mosaic Law

Today we live under the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It has only two
laws. The first is to love your God with all your heart, mind, and soul.
The second is to love your neighbor as you love yourself. Another
place it is stated a little differently. It says to love your enemies
because any heathen fool loves their family. A Christian should be at
the center of loving others. Please don’t be fooled by those who judge
others as they promenade down a church aisle on Sunday. They are
the false church because no one can judge another human being and
still love them. It is not possible. Judgment is a manipulation that
allows the judge to place himself or herself above others. There is
only One true judge and that is Jesus Christ. He is the Creator of all
things and He paid the penalty to judge righteously. Our heavenly
Father gives Jesus all authority to judge others. Do not be alarmed
when others judge you because if their conclusions are wrong God
will bless you more abundantly, so we never confront our accusers;
we let God deal with them. Faith that produces obedience is always a
precondition to God’s blessing.

The Mosaic Law was given to a people that were redeemed
through their faith in keeping the Passover. It was not intended to save
anyone but to guide the believer closer to God. It was designed to
reveal the holiness of God and to demonstrate to all how sinful or less
like God we really are. It set the bar very high in that the holiness that
God requires of those who wish to fellowship with Him must attain a
standard that we as humans are incapable of reaching. The law was
given to mankind as proof positive that we are unable to reach God’s
level on our own. It was made self-evident that we needed a Savior.
Therefore, the law was our tutor to bring us to Christ, that we might
be justified by faith. But after faith has come, we are no longer under
a tutor.1 The word tutor here is the household slave that was
responsible for teaching the children.

When the Israelites left Egypt, they were a large group of
disoriented people. The law was given to unify them and turn them
into a nation. It was their constitution, so the nation of Israel was a
group who voluntarily submitted themselves to the laws of God. The
law was given to separate them from other nations in order that they
could become a kingdom of priests. It was created so there would be a
provision for the forgiveness of sins and a true restoration of
fellowship. A provision was provided so the Israelites could be a
people of worship and several feasts were allowed so the redeemed
could look forward to the coming of the promised Redeemer.
Those who submitted themselves to the law did so by faith in God
that resulted in obedience and those who disobeyed the law showed a
lack of faith in God. The Mosaic Law was given to reveal Jesus
Christ, the truths of His person and works, which are woven
throughout the law and its festivals. It was a way to prepare the nation
for the coming of its King. A redeemed people have an obligation to
their Redeemer. They must submit authority to their King and until
this time comes God will not recognize them as a nation.
No one could adhere to the law so in itself it was deficient. We
have all fallen short of its standard and there was no provision to
justify us before God. It keeps us as children unable to come to
maturity under its bondage. It was only put into place until Christ
became the law for all who believe. We who believe in Christ are free
from the law, but we must still recognize that the law is holy, just, and
good.

The Palestinian Covenant discusses the repentance of a nation.
Because of unfaithfulness, the Israelites will be removed from the
land until their future repentance. The Messiah will return, and their
rightful ownership will be restored, and Israel will be converted as a
nation. Then they will receive the full blessing from God and their
enemies will be judged. There are four important things Israel must
do to repent from their past sins. They must humble themselves
before God and acknowledge their sins. They must call upon the
name of the Lord in prayer because prayer is an attitude of
dependence. They must seek the face of God, and they must turn from
their wicked ways. Repentance now becomes an important part of the
message to the nation of Israel and is an important part of our
personal relationship with God.

Immorality and sin are two words that are not interchangeable.
One refers to a random choice of the human standard of right, and the
other to a divine standard that is the essence of lawlessness. We were
endowed by our Creator with a free will, able to decide for ourselves
which path we should take, and we chose to assert our will in the
opposite direction of God. As a result, the carnal or natural mind is an
enmity against God. It is not subject to God, nor can it be in its
present condition. The chances of the life of an unregenerate sinner
turning to God on his own is very slim, but God is rich in mercy: for
His great love wherein He loved us, even when we were dead through
our trespasses, quickened us together with Christ.2

If you look at the history of our planet, beings that revolted
against God have been sent here for eons. The greatest perpetrator of
all eternity was sent here. Satan—Lucifer, the devil—was cast down
to earth, which I believe is the prison planet of the universe. Look at
the condition of the inhabitants of earth and the sins they commit
against each other. I am not sure that all of us or most of us, in some
form or other, have committed high crimes against others in some
fashion. I know we are eternal spiritual beings that were alive before
we were placed in these bodies. I know that 85 percent of our mental
capacity is being held from us and the knowledge of our past is being
hidden from us. I believe this is the last chance we are going to get to
make things right with our Creator before our eternal being will be
cast into the lake of fire, not to die but to be tormented for eternity.

Deuteronomy 28-30 is a message to us from God that denounces
sin and gives us every warning possible to discipline ourselves or face
the consequences. The principal adherer of the truth is the nation of
Israel, but it is a warning to all of us to turn away from sin. We turn to
God in prayer because we know He keeps His promise of love with
those who love Him and obey His commands. If we are unfaithful, we
are left in this world to fend for ourselves, but if we turn to God and
obey His commands, He will gather us up under His wing and make
us His children again. Repentance will bring the restoration of our
privileges and blessings of the promises He made to us in His word.
This works with the individual and it works with a nation as well.
The United States for many years operated its government through the
eyes of Christian men. Now this has all changed and the people who
run this country have removed any evidence of Christianity from its
journals. Once Christ roamed through our families, schools, and our
halls of justice. Now we have become benign to the facts of Christian
life and judgment is at our doorstep. The time for our nation to repent
has passed, but there is still time for the individual to repent and turn
to Christ.

The statements of the Palestinian Covenant give provisions for us,
Israel, and any other nation the guidelines to turn to God. It is easy to
see that the literal fulfilment means Israel must be converted as a
nation, regathered from the world, and placed back into her land. She
will witness the judgment of her enemies and receive the blessings
promised to her. Through this covenant, the key that unlocks the
mystery of God’s dealing with His people is revealed, but all of us
can benefit from its four conditions of repentance.

1.) Galatians 3:24-25
2.) Ephesians 2:4-5
