In the Beginning God

We haven’t any knowledge of spiritual eternity. The subject has
never been discussed by the participants. What we do have is this
fourteen-billion-year plan to bring the material world, or that part of it
that is good, to the eternal future. This future will not only include
beings, but I believe it will include animals, birds, fish, plants, and
insects. It will also include inanimate objects. We will have a
sampling of those things that overcame.

The Father of Spirits existed throughout all eternity with the
Word (Jesus Christ). There was nothing of a physical nature that
existed. No up or down, no night or day, no visible—only the Spirit of
God mapping out His future creation with His Son. Our heavenly
Father planned every detail of creation from the beginning until the
next beginning. In the beginning was the Word, and the Word
was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with
God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing
was made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of
men.1 Thus, says God the LORD, Who created the heavens and
stretched them out, Who spread forth the earth and that which comes
from it, Who gives breath to the people on it, and spirit to those who
walk on it.

Jesus Christ is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of
all creation. For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens
and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or
rulers or authorities. All things have been created through Him and
for Him. He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.
He is also head of the body, the church; and He is the beginning, the
firstborn from the dead, so that He Himself will come to have first
place in everything. For it was the Father’s good pleasure for
all the fullness to dwell in Him, and through Him to reconcile all
things to Himself, having made peace through the blood of His cross;
through Him, I say, whether things on earth or things in heaven. He is
appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world.
And He is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His
nature and upholds all things by the word of His power. He is the
Alpha and the Omega, who is and who was and who is to come, the
Almighty. “I am the First and I am the Last. Besides Me there is no God.”
He was revealed in the flesh, was vindicated in the spirit, seen by angels,
proclaimed among the nations, believed on in the world, taken up
in glory. God raised Him up again, putting an end to the agony of
death, since it was impossible for Him to be held in its power.

He is eternal – In the beginning was the Word, and the Word
was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with
God. All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him
nothing came into being that has come into being. In Him was life,
and the life was the Light of men. The Light shines in the darkness,
and the darkness did not comprehend it. And the Word became flesh,
and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only
begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth. For there are three
that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit:
and these three are one. “These three are one God, the same in substance,
equal in power and glory. They are one nature, the same in
Their attributes, in Their will and in Their purpose.” All nations before
Him are as nothing; and they are counted to Him less than nothing,
and vanity. To whom then will ye liken God? Or what likeness
will ye compare unto Him?

He is all-powerful – I pray that the eyes of your heart may be
enlightened, so that you will know what is the hope of His calling,
what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and
what is the surpassing greatness of His power toward us who
believe. These are in accordance with the working of the strength of
His might which He brought about in Christ, when He raised Him
from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the
heavenly places, far above all rule and authority and power and
dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also
in the one to come. And He put all things in subjection under His feet
and gave Him as head over all things to the church, which is
His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.

He is all-knowing – He knew all men, and because He did not
need anyone to testify concerning man, for He Himself knew what
was in man. So, we have the full assurance of understanding, resulting
in a true knowledge of God’s mystery, that is, Christ Himself, in
whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
Jesus said, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on
earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them
in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them
to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always,
even to the end of the age.”

He is unchanging – Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today
and forever. For in Him all the fullness of Deity dwells in bodily
form, and in Him you have been made complete, and He is the
head over all rule and authority. We speak God’s wisdom in
a mystery, the hidden wisdom which God predestined before the ages
to our glory; the wisdom which none of the rulers of this age has
understood; for if they had understood it, they would not have
crucified the Lord of glory.

No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son, who is
in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him. In the beginning He
laid the foundation of the earth, and the heavens are the works of His
hands. God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time
past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us
by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom
also He made the worlds; who being the brightness of His glory and
the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word
of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at
the right hand of the Majesty on high, having become so much better
than the angels, as He has by inheritance obtained a more excellent
name than they.

If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will
love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him.
Therefore, God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name
which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee
should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those
under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus
Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Throughout all eternity past there was nothing but perfect
invisibility. What it was like we are not sure because it has never been
described to us. However, we know that eternity is a timeless realm
without duration or sequence. There is not a before or after, past or
present or future as we think of them today. In eternity they all exist
together in an eternal now. It is time neverending. God is invisible
and has no shape or form. He is completely self-sufficient and spent
eternity past with His created Family. God had an eternal purpose
which unfolded with the creation of the universe. Therefore, since
time began, everything that has happened in this sequence of time is
the revealing of the mind of God. Events and occurrences were
decreed by God in the eternal past. Every one of our destinies was
decided by the mind of God. Our cultures, our languages, our races,
and our locations on earth were all decided by God. We live in a
created reality where if Christ would look away it would all
disappear.

I believe when the universe was created it was not how it is now.
Sin damaged the earth’s ecosystems where death prevailed over us,
the plants, and the animals. I believe the same is true with the
universe; when the angels fell from grace, things changed. There was
a great war in heaven and even though the participants are immortal
spiritual beings, they destroyed the property of their adversaries.
Many are all fighting for something that does not belong to them and
their time is about to expire.

In the beginning of creation, stars did not die, so there were no
black holes or quasars, and gravity did not have any powerful entities
to control the flow of matter. It only had the gravitational pull of
planet against planet, star against star, and matter against matter, and
had its own progression of events where God placed the stars and the
planets in their proper order. After this great war, the universe was in
quite a mess and God had to restore order to preserve time.

Even now stars are dragged into each other and galaxies collide
because of the gravitational pull of massive black holes. Quasars,
which are the brightest objects in the universe, would not exist along
with red dwarf stars and supernovae. Now everything has been
recycled except for what ends up in the cosmic ash heap. There are
neutron stars, which are the collapsed cores of supergiant stars, and
black holes, formed from the hearts of supernovae. There are brown
dwarfs, stars so small they slowly fade away. White dwarfs, which
first appear in the centers of planetary nebulae, will also slowly fade
away. Many planets will be returned to interstellar space when their
stars become red giants and destroy them.

I believe black matter, which so many scientists are investigating
to prove its existence, came about from the fall of the angels and the
war that followed. It has corrupted the universe and grown stronger
over time. Its presence is implied in a variety
of astrophysical observations, including gravitational effects that
cannot be explained by accepted theories of gravity unless more
matter is present than can be seen. For this reason, most experts think
that dark matter is abundant in the universe and that it has had a
strong influence on its structure and present condition. Dark matter is
called dark because it does not appear to interact with the
electromagnetic fields, which means it doesn’t absorb, reflect, or
emit electromagnetic radiation, and is therefore difficult to detect.

Everything we see and experience has been affected by the power
of sin. In Christ there is no death and in Satan there is nothing but
death. He attacks our character and walks the earth in search of whom
He may devour. Our casual attitude toward daily life is a mistake that
we cannot make. We are so involved with our daily struggles that we
have misunderstood the urgency of life on this planet. We are at war
against spiritual beings that are far more powerful than we are. Be
sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a
roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Resist him, steadfast in
the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your
brotherhood in the world.2
